The story behind our moon rock jewelry

The story behind our moon rock jewelry

What are Moon Rocks… other than rocks?

Well, basically what the name says — rocks from the actual moon.

Before we get into it though, one quick thing: moon rocks and moonstones aren’t the same. Moonstones are beautiful, yes, but they’re minerals you find on Earth. Moon rocks, on the other hand, are a whole different story.

They’re fragments of lunar meteorites — parts of the moon’s surface that got blasted off when another rock hit it. Some of those pieces got flung into space, drifted through the void, and eventually fell to Earth as what we see as shooting stars.

So if you’ve got a piece from our Imbrium series, you’re literally holding a piece of the moon. Each moon rock we use is sourced from verified collections and comes with a certificate of authenticity from legit labs. No fluff, no gimmicks. Just the real deal.

Why Moon Rocks?

Bringing moon rocks into Yoreh jewelry wasn’t just a creative idea — it was personal.

I’ve always had a connection to the moon. Back when I was living in the city, surrounded by noise and chaos, I used to photograph the moon as a way to find stillness. It became a ritual, something grounding when everything else felt unsteady. That practice pulled me deeper into photography, and eventually into design.

So yeah, including real moon rocks in what we make felt like a full-circle moment. It’s not just about how it looks — it’s about what it means. Every piece carries part of that story.

What Moon Rocks Mean

There’s something kind of surreal about wearing part of the moon. The way it reflects light, the subtle textures, the fact that each one is different—it’s not about perfection, it’s about character. And that’s exactly what makes them special.

But for me, what really hits is the idea that you can give someone a piece of the moon. That’s not just a gift — it’s a message. Something bigger than words. These rocks aren’t just minerals from space—they’re stories, carried close to the skin.

A lot of people say they feel something when they wear them. Like a shift in perspective. Some even say it’s grounding. Others, healing. In spiritual circles, moon rocks are said to help with clarity, calm, and intuition. Whether or not you believe in that kind of thing, I’ll tell you this: every time I wear mine, I feel a bit more connected. Like I’m carrying a reminder that we’re all part of something much bigger.

That feeling? That’s what I wanted to share.

Making Jewelry Out of Moon Rocks

Turning moon rocks into wearable pieces wasn’t easy. When we first started, we honestly didn’t know what we were getting into.

The rocks come from certified meteorite collections — mostly in Africa — and each one is authenticated through lab testing. That part was straightforward. But shaping them into jewelry? That took a lot of trial and error.

We lost more rocks than I’d like to admit during the early stages. Each piece is different — some are fragile, others are dense — and they all react differently to cutting. It took time (and patience) to figure out how to shape them without damaging their natural beauty.

Once we got that process down, things really started to click. It begins with cutting — done carefully to preserve the texture and structure of the stone. Then comes polishing, which is where their depth and shimmer start to come through. We use a range of abrasives and soft buffers to keep the raw texture visible while bringing out light reflection.

The last step is setting the rock into a ring or necklace. That part’s just as delicate. Each setting is designed to hold the rock securely without hiding what makes it special. After a lot of back-and-forth with our team, we landed on a system that works — and every piece that leaves the studio is something we’re proud of.

We’ve spent months fine-tuning this process. The goal has always been to respect the rock’s origin, keep its character intact, and build something meaningful around it.
